Par Hawaii Announces Leadership Transition
Dec 4, 2020
HONOLULU_Par Hawaii, LLC will undergo a leadership transition at the end of the year with Jim Yates stepping down as President of Par Hawaii, and Eric Wright, Senior Vice President, assuming Par Hawaii’s lead executive role effective January 1, 2021.
“This announcement is the culmination of a succession plan initiated almost four years ago when we asked Eric and his family to relocate to Honolulu from Houston. It has been my sincere pleasure to watch him grow into this leadership role and earn the respect and admiration of his colleagues, our customers and many within our community,” said Yates. “I have complete confidence in Eric’s ability to lead our company through these turbulent times and to continue to expand his influence in and support for our community.”
Wright was appointed Senior Vice President in March 2017. Since that time, he has been responsible for Par Hawaii’s statewide fuel distribution system and related business development opportunities. “This is a challenging time for the energy sector, but I am excited at the opportunities these tough times create. We are invested in this community, and our team and assets are well positioned to be successful in Hawaii now and into the future,” said Wright.
“Thank you, to Jim and our leadership team for their confidence in my ability to lead our company at this time. I have known Jim for over 7 years and have learned from his example in the office and in our broader community. Jim guided Par Hawaii through a period of significant growth, and I could not have asked for a better mentor to prepare me for my new role. I wish Jim the best in his new role, and I’m grateful that I will still be able to call on him for counsel.” said Wright.
While relinquishing his leadership role for Par Hawaii, Yates will continue as a Senior Vice President and member of the executive leadership team for the parent company, Par Pacific Holdings. In this new role, Yates will continue to have responsibility for the company’s mainland retail operations, while serving as a special advisor on issues across the company, including Hawaii.
Having moved to Hawaii in 1993 as Vice President of BHP Petroleum, Yates served as President and CEO of The Gas Company (now Hawaii Gas) and Mid Pac Petroleum, prior to joining Par Hawaii as President in 2015.
Wright joined Par Pacific, the parent company of Par Hawaii, in April 2013 and has been closely involved in Par Hawaii’s business since. Prior to joining Par Pacific, Eric was on the M&A and divestiture team at The AES Corporation, a global electric generation and utility company. Prior to AES, Wright was on the treasury team at Xcel Energy, Inc. where he contributed to the development of a $2 billion transmission joint venture involving eleven utilities.
Eric is a CFA charter-holder and has a bachelor’s degree in International Economics from Georgetown University. He is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He lives in Kailua with his wife and three children. Eric’s wife, Jill, is Director of Philanthropy & Community Relations at The Institute for Human Services.
